Assistant Professor (tenure track)



The Department of English at the University of British Columbia – Vancouver seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Transnational Asian Literatures.

We invite applications from specialists working on transnational Asian literatures and cultures. Possible areas of interest include Transpacific and Pacific studies, Global Asian and Asian diasporic literatures, postcolonial writing, or Asian and South Asian Canadian literature. We welcome transnational and comparative perspectives, historical range, the blending of creative and critical modes, and community engagement.

The Department of English is actively renewing its curriculum, aiming both to showcase its traditional strengths, and to enhance research and teaching in new and emerging areas. Current and planned courses that are potentially relevant to this position include Global South Connections; World Literature and Social Movements; Migrations and Transnational Networks; Early Canadian Literature; Asian Canadian and/or Asian Transnational Literature; Canadian Literature; and Indigenous Literature.

Applicants are asked to include, as part of their application materials, a separate statement describing past experience in activities that promote diversity and inclusion, broadly understood, and/or plans to make future contributions.

Applicants must have a PhD (or provide solid indication of imminent completion), publications, and experience teaching at the post-secondary level; they are expected to provide strong evidence of active and excellent research, and demonstrate a record of, or potential for, high quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, graduate supervision, and service.
