2019 UBC Honorary Degree Recipient

The Department of English Language & Literatures is delighted that Professor Emeritus William H. New, OC is among those being bestowed with an honorary from UBC. UBC’s honorary degrees are intended to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to society provincially, nationally and/or internationally.

“William H. New is an internationally recognized literary critic, editor, anthologist, poet and children’s writer who has made an extraordinary and singular contribution to the creation and appreciation of Canadian literature and Canadian literary history. During his more than 50 years on UBC’s faculty, he has won many prestigious awards for teaching and research, has served as the editor of numerous journals and has authored over 150 scholarly articles.” — UBC Ceremonies

UBC conferred the degree Doctor of Science, honoris causa at the Spring Graduation Ceremony on May 29th.
