Beyond the Degree: An Interview with Jianna Faner (BA Honours ’18)

Jianna Faner graduated from UBC in 2018 with a BA Honours in English Literature and Language, and a Minor in Law and Society. After graduation, she worked for two years as a Communications and Development Coordinator at Dixon Transition Society. She is now back at UBC as a first-year law student at Peter A. Allard School of Law and is also working as a Women’s Support Worker at Dixon. During her undergraduate, Jianna was active in the UBC English community: she was on the editorial board of The Garden Statuary and, in her last year, was the President of the English Students’ Association (ESA). Jianna sat down with the current ESA President to chat about her experiences as a UBC English student and the impact these have had on her career development. Jianna highlights the benefits of her Arts education and shares advice valuable to students curious about where their English degree may take them, from the job marked to law school.
