A panel discussion with former UBC English students
The UBC Department of English Language and Literatures invites undergraduate English students to join our panel of English alumni to discuss their experiences as students and how their degree shaped their journey and career. Alumni panelists will share their stories in a moderated discussion and students will have the chance to pose questions in a Q and A session shortly afterwards. Light refreshments will be served and attendees are encouraged to mingle and network after the panel discussion.

We’d like to thank our alumni panelists for the time and insight that they shared on our panel. A brief overview of who was on our panel below:
Tara Chan (BA’14) – Lawyer at Papyrus Law Corporation
Tara Chan is a lawyer at Papyrus Law Corporation in Vancouver, where she practices primarily in civil litigation, wills and estates, and corporate and commercial law. After earning her degree from UBC, she pursued a combined law and MBA program in Ontario. She is an Officer of the Order of St. John and a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her dedication and contributions to community safety, including event planning and emergency response initiatives.
Alexandra Lamb (BA’23) – Marketing Executive Manager for Cinewoo Studios Inc.
Alexandra Lamb (she/her) graduated with a BA in English (Honours) and Philosophy (Honours) with High Distinction from UBC in 2023; and she is currently completing her Master’s degree in English Literature at UBC as well. Prior to her time at UBC, she also attended BCIT’s Broadcast and Online Journalism program and has been working as a freelance writer and digital storyteller since 2014. Her most notable workplace positions have been Marketing Management positions and she continues to freelance in digital media on the side.
Jonah Lee-Mcnamee (BA’20) – Filmmaker (self employed)
Jonah Lee-McNamee is a director, writer, and producer based in Vancouver, Canada. He has directed and produced a number of documentaries with CBC including Van City (2022), Night Market Neighbours (2022-2023), and a short series in 2024 featuring local food businesses in Vancouver. He wrote and directed The Smiths for MAMM 2024 and a Telus Storyhive scripted short titled Soon (2026).
Gabrielle Lee (BA’24) – Editorial Intern at Take 5 Newsmagazine
Gabrielle graduated in 2024 with a BA (Honours) in English, emphasis in Literature. After graduation, she spent time backpacking in Europe and working in academic research before being hired at Take 5, a local outlet focusing on mid-Vancouver Island communities. As an editorial intern, her job includes conducting interviews, pitching stories, composing travel guides, and writing and editing columns.
