Originally from Nova Scotia, I moved to Vancouver in 1997 to teach at UBC. My teaching and research interests include 19th-21st century literary and cultural studies; the Gothic inheritance, especially in popular culture and Victorian literature; dystopian and post-apocalyptic narratives; the contemporary bildungsroman; and composition including technical writing. I am co-editor, with Brett Grubisic and Tara Lee, of Blast, Corrupt, Dismantle, Erase: Contemporary North American Dystopian Literature (WLUP 2014). My current research examines the Bluebeard story’s influence on various Gothic narratives, especially in film.
