The Department of English at UBC-Vancouver invites applications for the position of First-year English Coordinator, to be appointed at the rank of 12-Month Lecturer beginning 1 July 2017. This position is potentially renewable, with reappointment contingent upon excellent performance appraisals and availability of funds.
The First-year English Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the first-year English program, with particular focus on coordination of English 112 sections. Major duties include work related to registration and planning, cross-section continuity, exam coordination, transfer and articulation, assessment of student eligibility, student advising, conflict resolution, and mentorship of new faculty teaching ENGL 112. The First-year English Coordinator also liaises with advisors, Faculties, and programs across UBC.
The 12-Month Lecturer position has year-round duties and a standard teaching load of eight 3-credit courses per year; the First-year English Coordinator receives one 3-credit course release in recognition of the additional administrative duties associated with the Coordinator role.
Applicants should hold a PhD in English Literature, Rhetoric or Language, and have at least five years’ successful experience teaching ENGL 112 or one of its articulated equivalents at UBC. Experience in academic administration will be an asset.

- a cover letter indicating your experience teaching academic writing and any academic administrative experience
- a curriculum vitae (detailing post-secondary teaching experience and listing fields of teaching expertise)
- a statement of teaching philosophy/practice (not exceeding one page)
- evidence of teaching effectiveness, including teaching evaluations from three courses taught in 2016 or 2017 and other evidence of excellent teaching
