About
Cat Sylvia Blackwell is an English MA student whose research is centered on the Medical Humanities from a Trans Studies-based approach; with influences from Rhetorical Studies, Literary Studies, and Philosophy broadly.
More specifically, her ongoing MA thesis will look at transgender medical history and its interweaving with criminality/drug use to investigate the problems that exist from this linkage, but also what actionable possibilities emerge outside of mere discursive observation. The thesis will incorporate thought from a variety of fields and literatures including Trans Studies, Science and Technology Studies (STS), Medical Humanities, Trans Literature, Postmodern Theory, Marxism, Law, Public Policy, Women’s and Gender Studies, and others.
She received her BA in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Writing and a minor in Social Science from the University of North Texas in 2023 and is preparing to start her PhD in 2025.
