“Applying to Graduate School: A Series of discussions, information, and workshops”
Event 1: Mastering our MA Application – a panel discussion
Tuesday, October 27, 12:00 to 1:30 pm (via Zoom)
With Dr. Suzy Anger, MA Coordinator, UBC English and recent UBC English grads: Ana Maria Fernandez (Cambridge), Christine Xiong (Stanford), and Sophie McNeilly (Toronto)
Are you applying to an MA in English or are thinking about applying, but have questions about what’s involved in the process of doing so? How do I choose the right program? How do I compose my Statement of Intent? How do I approach my teachers for letters of reference? These and other questions will be answered by a panel of faculty and former UBC English students—all of them currently in graduate programs in Canada, the USA, and the UK.
Event 2: Applying for SSHRCC
Thursday, November 5, 12:30 to 2:30 pm (via Zoom)
Hosted by Dr. Suzy Anger, MA Coordinator, UBC English
Are you planning to apply for funding for your Master’s degree? If so, you are invited to attend this session (part of ENGL 500: Research in English Studies) on how to go about doing so. What is SSHRCC? What information do I need? How do I navigate the application? How do I write a proposal? How do I approach referees? Bring you questions.
Event 3: SSHRCC and Affiliation Grant Workshop
Thursday, November 12, 12:30 to 2:30 pm (via Zoom)
Hosted by Dr. Suzy Anger, MA Coordinator, UBC English
Bring a draft of your SSHRCC proposal to this session to receive feedback from fellow applicants, grad students, grant holders, and faculty! This is an annual event (part of ENGL 500: Research in English Studies) in the department—one of the most helpful and productive we hold. You will not regret it!
