Sandra Norris, Advisor and Administrator of the First-Year English Program, has been awarded the Faculty of Arts Dean’s Award for Staff Excellence. This award is given annually to staff in the Faculty of Arts in recognition of their many contributions across the University.
Sandra has ‘a deep sense of caring’ and is ‘unfailingly positive, patient and supportive, providing a human face to UBC’s First-Year experience.’
The citation read during the presentation of the award states,
“Sandra is applauded for her unwavering commitment to improving the first-year student experience through her work with nearly 6,000 incoming students each year. Sandra has an exceptional gift for insight, support and calm. Students have referred to her stellar guidance and expertise as a ‘Godsend’. Colleagues state that Sandra has ‘a deep sense of caring’ and is ‘unfailingly positive, patient and supportive, providing a human face to UBC’s First-Year experience.’ Staff praise her as a ‘role model.’ Sandra’s singular devotion, patience and empathy have clearly contributed to the ethos of collegiality, respect, and caring in the Department amongst staff, faculty and students.”
