The department has a vibrant tradition of work on poetry and poetics, ranging from contemporary and site-specific projects based in Vancouver to archival and historical work. In previous years, students and faculty have organized a series of poetry readings featuring artists from across Canada. In the earlier part of the year, for the department’s 2019 Dorothy Black Lecture, we hosted a special performance by Lillian Allen, the esteemed Canadian dub poet, Juno award-winning artist, and OCAD Creative Writing professor.
