Edith Maude Eaton (or Sui Sin Far) (1865-1914) and Winnifred Eaton (or Onoto Watanna) (1875-1954) were the first known Chinese American women authors. They launched the field of Asian American literature. An exhibition entitled “Sui Sin Far and Onoto: Writing Hybridity on the Cusp of the 20th Century” will open at UBC Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections from 12 September to 15 October.
The exhibition is curated by Professor Mary Chapman, undergraduate research assistant Jennifer Tang, and Brandy Lien Worrall Soriano, and is open to the public.
