APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THIS POSITION NOW CLOSED
The Department of English Language & Literatures at University of British Columbia (Vancouver) invites applications for a full-time position of Lecturer, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. This position is initially a three-year appointment (with a probationary first year) and is potentially renewable, with reappointment contingent upon effective teaching and service and the availability of funds. Lecturer positions are salaried teaching-and-service appointments.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English literature (or a closely related field) in hand by 1 September, 2020. Applications from individuals with experience teaching children’s literature are particularly welcome. However, the successful applicant will have the capacity to teach, as the department requires, a range of courses in English literature in historical and contemporary fields and at both introductory and advanced undergraduate levels. A willingness to teach on-line courses is also an asset.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate teaching experience or evidence of potential for teaching excellence. To ensure full consideration, applicants should submit their applications online through the Department of English Language and Literatures’ Internal Resources website at: https://engl.air.arts.ubc.ca/position-34983, where they will be prompted to upload the following in the order listed: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a 1-page statement of teaching philosophy and a one-page (maximum) statement about your experience working with a diverse student body and your contributions or potential contributions to creating/advancing a culture of equity and inclusion. You should also include evidence of teaching effectiveness, including sample syllabi, peer reviews, self-evaluation and/or student feedback, from at least 3 recently taught courses. Applicants should also arrange to have confidential letters from three referees sent to english.recruitment@ubc.ca by the same deadline.
Applications and all supporting materials should be received by October 1. Review of applications will begin soon after this date and will continue until the position is filled.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
