About
Ben Bengtson (He/Him) is a PhD student in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia. He is a thoroughgoing modernist interested in late modernism and mid-twentieth-century British literature. His doctoral research investigates the entanglements and anxieties of this literary period by way of the medical humanities in its many guises.
He completed his Master’s in English Literature and Culture at the University of Groningen, where his thesis (“Influenza Lacked Plot”: Locating the Silent Pandemic in Interwar Modernism) received a nomination for the national Jan Brouwer Thesis Prize. He also holds a BA in English from McGill University. Before commencing graduate school, he had a long career in newspaper journalism as a reporter and editor, which brought him into contact with bustling newsrooms throughout British Columbia.
