About

Olivia Dreisinger is a PhD student, filmmaker, and writer. Her own fluctuating abilities often dictate how she produces work–a process that regularly leads her to new and generative mediums to explore. Dreisinger obtained her Master’s from McGill University where she made a 3D animated feature length film exploring disability in the fanfiction community. The film has been screened both internationally and domestically. Her current dissertation research is interested in how people with medically unexplained illnesses—illnesses that evade contemporary medical detection or explanation—build ethos, or credibility.

Her work has been supported by Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. She is also the recipient of UBC’s Public Humanities Seed Grant and part of the Public Scholars Initiative for her project Diagnosis Grad School: A Podcast Series
